Top 5 Tips for Oily Skin

I have oily skin and it drives me crazy! For a while I struggled to get my skin under control and decided to completely change my skin routine and it’s made a big difference! I’ve picked up a few tips and tricks for oily skin along the way and thought I would share them with you!

1.Cleanse!

It is really important to cleanse your skin day and night to help keep your skin clean and fresh. Salicylic acid is one of the best things to use on oily skin, it helps by opening up clogged pores and it also evens out skin tone and texture, so look for a cleanser with it in the ingredients. Make sure you concentrate your cleanser in the places you get the most oily like your T-Zone.

2. Moisturise!

Some people think that if you’ve got oily skin moisturising will make it worse but that is not true! If you don’t moisturise your skin will become dehydrated and produce more oil to make up for the lack of moisture. The best moisturisers to use are oil free ones with light formulas, I love using gel formulas. Pixi and Garnier have great gel mosturisers.

3. Remove your Makeup!

Taking your make up off every night is so important for all skin types! Sleeping with make up on can clog your pores and increase oil production. I use the Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm which is a balm that turns to an oil (I know what you’re thinking, oil on oily skin?! just hear me out!) It’s a non-greasy formula and really removes every trace of make up, using this product has never made my skin oily.

4. Powder!

If you’re a full coverage queen or like a more natural look powder is the key to keeping  oil at bay. Setting your foundation with a loose finishing powder or a foundation powder will keep your make up on for longer and stop you looking shiny during the day. I am currently loving the Dermablend setting powder or for a cheaper alternative Maybelline Master Fixer powder. If you find yourself getting oily during the day invest in some blotting papers and keep them in your bag, you can apply more powder during the day if you want to but I find that can make my skin look cakey.

5. Face Masks!

Using a face mask once a week really helps keep on top of your skin by keeping the pores clear and your skin clean. I really enjoy using clay masks as they are the best suited to clear pores and absorb excess oil from your face. Sometimes I also like to use peel off masks to keep up even skin tone and texture too. My favourite masks are from the Montagne Jeunesse range the Dead Sea Mud mask and the Honey Peel Off mask, Lush also makes some really good face masks and you can buy them in pots so they aren’t just single use masks.
